Julie Swift, Founder

Background

I have always wanted to work with people and have been fascinated by the human brain.  I started out in Psychology on a Head Injury Unit in a Psychiatric hospital in the UK.  Back in Australia I moved into Human Resource Management and spent 10 years managing performance, hiring and training staff and writing employee based communications.

After taking a career break while my children were little, I decided to retrain as a teacher.  It was a great fit personally and professionally.  I worked in both the private and public school systems, as a classroom teacher and as a specialist working with students with special educational needs (SEN).  I have a depth of experience working with children who have been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability (ID) and other learning difficulties .

I started Homeschool4me for a number of reasons.  Firstly it was apparent to me that the traditional school system is not for everyone.  Some students just needed more assistance or individual attention than a classroom teacher could provide.  Others found the school environment overwhelming.  Covid increased the prevalence of school refusal.  There were more and more parents and carers realising that homeschooling was their best option.  However, there was little guidance out there on how to do homeschooling well.  Teachers train for years not only on the content (Mathematics, Engish, Science, Humanities), but on the Psychology of learning, the use of technology, self-reflective practise and much more. How can parents and carers access this knowledge?

My answer is Homeschool4me, which delivers tools and resources that can be used to provide an education that is tailored to each child.   As the parent or carer you know your child best. That knowledge is vital for the success of homeschooling.  Working in partnership with a Homeschool4me teacher you will use it to ensure that the teaching you deliver is at the right level, takes account of your child's learning style and where possible uses your child's interests to make the learning engaging.
